Illuminated Sign Boxes

Illuminated sign boxes can be either single sided or double sided fascia signs which are commonly made from translucent acrylic with vinyl graphics. The fascia is then either mounted directly onto the wall or more likely onto an aluminum sign box. The aluminum sign box is illuminated by fluorescent tubes. Aluminum is used as it is impermeable to rust and is very durable. Fascia signs are typically eight inches in depth, and can be as large as you could facade of the building. Illuminated sign boxes larger than 10’ in height are made from flexible vinyl faces to minimize weight and maximize durability.

3D sign boxes are also available and are made by engraving the sign face, typically aluminum. This sign face is usually made from 1/8 aluminum that has the letters routed out so the light can come through. Acrylic letters are than pushed in the opening in the face. The letters are cut from a piece of ½ inch translucent white acrylic and cut out exactly the same size as the ones in the aluminum. The letters could be flush or protrude beyond the aluminum to make the sign three dimensional.

In either case, any desired graphic can be applied to the fascia of the illuminated sign box, also boxes can be painted to any Pantone™ colour.

A more recent trend in illuminated sign box construction has been the use of LED moduals to build abnormally shapped signs which can be as thin as 3" in depth.
